blowing plastic bottles

In this episode we learn how plastic bottles are made. It is interesting! Do you ever wonder how all those plastic bottles that hold your favorite drinks are created? How a Plastic Bottle is Made (Step-by-Step Process) →

The chain begins with small plastic pieces known as pellets. This means these little pellets are really important because they're the building blocks for the bottles we use. Those pellets feed into a piece of specialized equipment known as an extruder, which melts them down into a liquid state. When the plastic is melted, it becomes quite soft and easy to manipulate. This melted plastic is poured into a mold, which is basically a container that forms the liquid plastic into the shape of the bottle we are familiar with. This forms the final shape of the bottle we see on our shelves as the plastic cools down, solidifying and hardening.

How plastic bottles are made through blowing

It’s both art and science to make plastic bottles. This involves meticulous measuring and planning to ensure that each bottle is the correct size and shape. This is done using a mold designed specifically for the desired bottle size. Essentially, the mold determines the height, width and thickness of the bottle. This preparation is crucial because if the bottle is not made as it should, then it will not be able to contain the drink properly.
